Shaw - Tuesday pm, Friday and Saturday am & pm
Royton - Monday/Friday/Saturday am, Wednesday & Friday pm
This volunteer role supports the operation of our shops, with the purpose of maximising sales, profitability and the positive perception of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. Our shop volunteers tell us they enjoy the fantastic teamwork at the stores and knowing that everything they raise supports patient care. This can be a physically demanding and fast paced role as it includes sorting and pricing goods, moving stock, merchandising and using a till.
At The Hospice
Turf Lane, Royton
We currently have very few opportunities available at the Hospice; we have been very popular lately! We welcome applications for any of the opportunities listed. If you are interested in other roles, you are welcome to let us know, but we cannot guarantee a position will become available in the short term. We will do our best to acknowledge your application within 14 days.
Bank receptionists Our volunteer receptionists provide a warm and friendly welcome for all visitors and users of the hospice, as well as providing a helpful response to enquiries in person and over the phone. We currently do not have any full time opportunities on reception available but this may change in the future. If you would be interested in your application being held on file until an opportunity becomes available, you are welcome to apply.
When? Ideally you will be flexible and willing to undertake one of the following shifts between Monday and Sunday, as required 9am-12 noon, 12-3pm, 3- 6pm or 6-8pm. Applications from people willing to volunteer between 6-8pm and at weekends are especially welcome.
Have you got green fingers? Your help in keeping our grounds and garden looking good throughout the season would be really welcome.
We will be looking to develop our grounds in the next few seasons, and are looking for people with an interest in vegetable growing and garden design to support the process. Ideally, you will enjoy working collaboratively with a group of other volunteers, and be able to make a regular commitment to helping us develop our grounds.
Whether you enjoy the buzz of helping a big event to run well, or want to make a huge impact with just a few hours of your time, events volunteering can be a really satisfying way to make a difference. What’s more, you can be assured that all funds raised will go directly back into patient care, so you’ll make a huge impact in just a few hours. This is a varied role which could include being outside, manning a stall at the summer fair or cheering at the finishing line. It could include working early mornings and late evenings, as well as weekends, on an ad-hoc basis.
We would welcome applications for individuals who would like to be considered as a back-up driver for the patient transport pool (using your own car, with expenses paid) or as a back up patient escort for Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.
Regular opportunity available during office hours, but flexibly
Would you be able to spare a few hours a week to help us update our databases? This is a flexible opportunity, which would suit someone with an administrative background, who feels confident using a computer. No experience of databases is essential, but would be beneficial. Due to staff availability, we will not normally be able to offer this opportunity during evenings and weekends.
Great! You can register your interest here.

Some roles at the Hospice are subject to a standard or enhanced DBS check due to contact with vulnerable people. Declaring that you have a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from volunteering with us, but please be prepared to discuss this in confidence with us when you apply.
