Trustee since July 2011. Appointed Vice Chair of the Board in January 2015 and then Chair in January 2020. Former Deputy Chief Executive, Tameside MBC. Accredited ACAS mediator. Key skill areas - employment law and practices, human resources, organizational development, appraisals, recruitment and staff training.
Dr Paul Cook
Dr Cook has been involved with the Hospice since 1993 and is currently the Vice Chair of the Board. He retired as the NHS Consultant in Palliative Care & Pain Medicine for Oldham in 2015 and has recently worked with the Greater Manchester Cancer Vanguard. He has special interests in cancer pain treatments (he ran a national cordotomy service for cancer pain at the Royal Oldham Hospital until retiring), medical education and the use of information technology in healthcare.
Mr Peter Wakefield
Trustee since December 2018. Freelance Charity Finance Consultant and former Head of Finance at Oldham Coliseum Theatre. Recently worked with West Yorkshire Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman Theatres. Obtained his Finance experience in the manufacturing industry with Osram and Siemens. Director of Imitating the Dog and Innovative Theatre Company presenting diverse work around the UK and internationally. A supporter of the Hospice for over 15 years, using his singing talents and contacts to raise funds for the hospice. Key skill areas – Charity Finance and Accounting, investments, fundraising and event organisation.
Mrs Susan Briscall
Trustee since April 2014. Retired from Pennine Acute Trust in June 2014. Worked for nearly 37 years at the Trust, mainly on the Orthopaedic Unit as the Manager. Towards the end of Sue's career she worked as a discharge co-ordinator for Orthopaedics/Surgical/Gastroenterology and Vascular wards. During this secondment part of her role was fast tracking terminally ill patients with the Macmillan team. Also worked with the Complaints Department for a short period of time.
Mr Gordon Russell
Trustee since April 2014. Former Retail Development Director of Littlewoods Stores Ltd (1999-2004) following a successful 37 year career with the company; Executive Director with Pearson and Hinchliffe (2004 – 2007). Key skill areas – business management, sales and marketing, organizational development, strategic planning and leadership.
Mrs Anne Sykes (JP, DL)
Trustee since May 2011. Founder member and Chair of Saddleworth Cancer Research UK. Magistrate since 1989 and member of the Probation Liaison Committee. Former non-executive Director of the Oldham NHS Trust and the Pennine Care NHS Trust. Key skill areas – administration, community engagement, complaints procedures, fundraising, governance and volunteer work.
Mr Jonathan Lipton
Trustee since January 2015. A Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in the independent sector, previously with the Royal Oldham Hospital and then Pennine Acute Trust for over 21 years.
Mrs Joanne Jones
Joanne is a Private Client Solicitor and Head of the Wills, Trusts and Estate Team at local firm Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers. She is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners; Full accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly. Her key skill areas are wills; trusts; probate and estate administration; tax planning and Court of Protection.
Mrs Rachel Damianou
Rachel is a Partner at local law firm, Wrigley Claydon Solicitors, and heads up the Wills, Probate and Elderly Client Department. She is also the legal representative on the Sola Fide (Educational) Trust. In her spare time Rachel is involved in a community mentoring scheme, the Lydgate Community Organisation and St Anne’s Church Lydgate. Her key skill areas are legal; volunteering; chaplaincy and fundraising.
