Retail Volunteer, Lees
How long have you volunteered with us?
Why do you volunteer for Dr Kershaw's?
I’m always delighted that it’s Wednesday, there is never a week that I don’t look forward to my volunteering for Kershaw's. My own father had cancer and a colleague was treated for breast cancer, so trying to raise as much money as possible to help people in their time of need is important to me, it’s just the right thing to do.
What do you enjoy about volunteering for us?
I just absolutely love it because it’s for a good cause but I like meeting the customers and also the people I work with – staff in the afternoons asked me to come back in and it was nice to be asked! They’re such a friendly bunch.
What’s your proudest moment at the Hospice?
It’s great to see the till at the end of the night and know we’ve raised money for the Hospice – I’m always dead chuffed!
Tell us more about how your skills and experience benefit the Hospice...
I was a CRM clerk for years so I love to see the customers and their faces when they’ve found something they love and for a good price. I like being able to make them feel welcome and keen to return.
Do you feel volunteering has any benefits for you?
I definitely look forward to coming in each week – all the Wednesday girls go out once a month, we never fail to meet up! My friends at the shop are always there for a laugh, I wouldn’t miss it.
