Thank you to everyone who supported Light Up a Life 2024, by attending our service at the Hospice, viewing online, making a dedication or supporting us in any other way.

Our annual Light Up a Life service is unique as it enables our community to remember their lost loved ones in a positive way with their participation being not only a symbol of remembrance but a way to show support to those in need in the community during the festive period.

This year’s Light Up a Life event saw over 1,000 households tuning in to the virtual service and over 1,200 dedications made to loved ones, as well as hundreds of people in attendance at the in-person service. Those who made a dedication had a light lit in memory of their loved ones on the Hospice’s dedication tree and their loved ones names have a special place in our Light Up a Life Book of Remembrance (available to collect from our Hospice reception or our shops) as well as on-screen during the virtual service.

We are delighted to announce that this year's Light up a Life service raised over £33,000 from the community and beyond, in donations made in memory of loved ones, which will enable the Hospice to provide dedicated care and support for a number of families across the borough of Oldham when they need it the most. This is the highest amount our Light Up a Life has ever raised!

We received over 1,200 dedications for those who are no longer with us, but who live on in our memories and our hearts. Inviting you into the Hospice to remember your loved one(s) meant so much to us and we thank everyone for being a part of this.

We hope you agree that the night was a memorable one and we look forward to inviting you back for our service again next year.

Watch this space for the total our Light Up a Life service has raised.

We want to say a special thank you to our event sponsor, Roma, our Hospice Readers, Paul Firth and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice Choir, St Joseph’s RC Junior Infant and Nursery School, Oldham Community Radio, The Oldham Times, Oldham Interfaith Forum, Oldham Council and Christmas Plus, New Image PR, Hays Travel, Crompton House Church of England School, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice staff and volunteers and the Clinical Teams at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice for their incredible work in the community.
