Senior Management Team

The Senior Management Team provides strategic leadership at the Hospice and are responsible to the Board of Trustees for the development of future plans and the strategic direction of the Hospice.

The Senior Management Team (SMT) meets on a weekly basis and regularly reviews and monitors day to day aspects of Hospice management, provides strategic leadership,  considers future plans and developments, and deals with issues referred from staff or the general public.

The Medical Director and Director of Clinical Services are members of the Palliative Care Multi-Professional Committee and the Oldham Palliative Care Strategy Group.

Senior Management Team Profiles

Mrs Joanne Sloan
Chief Executive

Joanne is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organisation. She came to Dr Kershaw’s in 2014 as Director of Clinical Services and still provides a lead on any clinical service developments in the Hospice. Her nursing career spans 33 years and prior to joining the Hospice team Joanne worked for 11 years as a Clinical Nurse Manager in the Division of Medicine at Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust, she holds a Master's degree in Health Service Management.

Dr Matthias Hohmann
Medical Director

Dr Hohmann has worked as a doctor in the NHS since 1999. GP since 2004 and Member of the Royal College of GPs. Diploma in Palliative Medicine (Cardiff) 2009. Macmillan Clinical Director Cancer for the NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group. Dr Hohmann became the Hospice Medical Director in October 2017.

Mrs Lyndsey Donbavand
Director of Quality and Governance

Department Lead for: Quality & Governance (working closely with Clinical Commissioning Groups and external stakeholders), Catering, Facilities, Housekeeping, Volunteering, HR and Reception. Chair of HR, Organisational Development & Communications Sub Group and member of the Strategic Governance, Information Governance and Clinical Governance Sub Groups/Committees. Member of the Senior Management Team; Complaints Lead; Accountable Emergency Officer; Supportive lead to Marketing & Communications and Practice Development.

Ms Adele Doherty
Director of Clinical Services

Adele is a senior nurse with 29 years’ experience spanning educational and managerial roles. Adele holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Practice Development and a Masters in Leadership and Management in a Healthcare Setting.

Ms Maria Papaleo
Director of Finance

Maria joined the team in November 2018 and is responsible for producing and managing the Hospice’s budget. Her finance career spans nearly 30 years, predominantly in the public sector, and prior to joining the Hospice had worked for 15 years in Local Government. She is a part qualified accountant, holding certificates on both the CIMA and CIPFA Accounting bodies.

Miss Rebecca Bentham
Director of Income Development and Marketing

Rebecca is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Income Development team; covering fundraising, legacies, events, marketing and communications, lottery, shops, e-commerce, and trading. She joined the Hospice in 2019 bringing fifteen years’ experience in the third sector; having worked for a number of charities as a cross fundraiser, including Liverpool Cathedral, Scope, and the Science Museum Group. Her specialty lies in that of Major Donor Giving. She holds a  BA (Hons) in Business Finance and is also qualified with the IOF’s Certificate in Fundraising Management.

Mrs Lindsey Harper
Lead Nurse for Community Services

Lindsey had been a District Nurse in Oldham for over 10 years when she joined the team at Dr Kershaw’s in 2015, to lead and implement the Hospice at Home Service, where she was able to utilise her knowledge, skills, and passion for palliative and end-of-life care in the community.

Lindsey holds a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing and a Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Practice.
