Leave us a gift in your Will

Remember Dr Kershaw's Hospice in your Will

Planning for the future is one of the most meaningful ways to support the causes close to your heart. By leaving a gift in your Will to our Hospice, you can help ensure we continue providing vital care and support to those who need us most.

Writing a Will is a thoughtful way to protect your loved ones and make a lasting difference in your local community. You'll be ensuring that your possessions and property go to the right place and the family you leave behind are looked after.

We are proud to be one of the 143 hospices taking part in the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign, a national initiative facilitated by Hospice UK to ensure that hospice care can be provided for future generations. Find out more in the video below, or contact us for more information.

Your gift can make a huge difference

Leaving a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to help continue the vital work that Dr Kershaw’s does for people in our community.

Even a small gift in your Will can have a big impact on the future of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. We understand that your family and friends come first, but leaving just 1% of your estate to us can help ensure we continue providing exceptional care and support to our community for years to come. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a lasting difference.

All you need is our charity name and registered number: Dr Kershaw's Hospice, 1105924.

We've included some common questions below, but feel free to contact us at fundraising@drkh.org.uk or 0161 624 9984 if you need more information.

There are three main types of gifts, known as legacies, that you can leave to support us:

  1. Residuary Legacy: A percentage of your estate after any debts are settled and your loved ones are provided for.
  2. Pecuniary Legacy: A specific sum of money left in your Will.
  3. Specific Legacy: A particular item, such as a piece of property or jewelry, gifted to us.

To make sure our Hospice receives your gift, you’ll need to include our name, address and registered charity number:

  • Name: Dr Kershaw’s Hospice
  • Address: Turf Lane, Royton, Oldham, OL2 6EU
  • Registered charity number: 1105924

Leaving a small percentage of your estate to us in your Will, known as a residuary legacy, can make a significant impact. These gifts are not affected by inflation, are exempt from inheritance tax, and often allow people to be more generous than they could during their lifetime. Every gift, no matter the size, plays a vital role in supporting the work we do at the Hospice and the care we provide for our patients and their loved ones.

Yes! Gifts to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice are exempt from Inheritance Tax, and leaving 10% or more of your estate to a charity can reduce the tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%. This not only benefits the causes you care about but could also reduce the tax burden on your loved ones.

To learn more, visit the government’s website on Inheritance Tax or consult a solicitor, accountant, or independent financial adviser for tailored advice.

It’s entirely up to you whether you let us know. We’d be delighted to hear from you, as it allows us to express our gratitude and plan for the future. To share details about a gift, please call us our Legacy & Grants Lead on 0161 624 9984 or email fundraising@drkh.org.uk. Any information you provide will be treated with the utmost confidence, and you can change your mind at any time.

Yes, absolutely. Your Will is a personal document that represents your final wishes, and you can update it at any time. Just get in touch with your solicitor or Will writing service to make any changes.

We would suggest that you speak to a solicitor directly to ensure that all of your wishes are written down as you wish. Our Will Month each November allows you to book an appointment with one of our solicitors whilst also supporting the Hospice, visit: www.drkh.org.uk/willmonth

We understand that you might wish to leave a gift directed toward a specific area of the Hospice’s work that is meaningful to you, and you’re welcome to do so. However, we kindly encourage leaving gifts without restrictions, as this allows us to allocate funds where they are needed most to support our patients and their families in the best possible way.
