Last week, Dr Kershaw’s Café K received a generous makeover courtesy of City Building Engineering Services.

David Hewitt, Fabric Manager at the company contacted the Hospice, wanting to offer their services including flooring, decorating, joinery and plumbing as part of the company's volunteering days.

Lyndsey Donbavand, Corporate Services Manager at Dr Kershaw’s said: “We are truly grateful for the generosity of City Building Engineering Services, who have done an amazing job renovating our café. All of the staff who came on site committed their time and efforts to complete the work within a week, with minimal disruption to Hospice services. The finished project has exceeded our expectations, from the flooring, decorating, new counter area including cupboards and worktops – I can’t stop smiling about it! I never thought that renovating the café would be an option, but all of the contractors were keen to choose the café as a project to offer to the Hospice. I have received so much positive feedback and it has been so nice to see people enjoying the café following the official re-opening.”

Café K offers a breakfast and lunch service to Dr Kershaw’s service users, visitors, staff and volunteers. The café is currently not open to the public, however this is something being explored to introduce in the near future.

David said: “Dr Kershaw’s is close to my heart, my brother-in-law was terminally ill with cancer, and never made it to the Hospice. Some of my family and friends have had cancer and I wanted to do something to help out. I am hoping to support Dr Kershaw’s with another project next year.”

Dr Kershaw's would also like to give a special mention to KH Flooring and D. Lowe Decorators for offering their services to the project, and SJ Signs and Graphics in Oldham for providing the sign for Café K complementary and at short notice.
