9-Year-Old Gabriella Conquers Pendle Hill for Hospice

13 Aug 2021

Gabriella Burke-Turner, aged 9, took to the hills at the end of May to conquer the heights of Pendle Hill to raise funds for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice who cared for her grandma before she sadly passed away earlier this year.
Gabriella’s mum, Sarah Burke said: “When Gabriella’s Grandma Joyce was looked after at the Hospice, she spoke very highly of the care she received, this resonated with Gabriella, and she wanted to give back something to the people who had cared for her Grandma. This was a challenge that Gabriella came up with by herself, she wanted it to be just that, something that challenged her, when we got to the top members of the public, complete strangers congratulated her and then made a donation on her JustGiving page. We are so proud of Gabriella and so was her Grandma, she would have been bursting with pride to see Gabriella achieve this challenge.

I was so grateful to everyone who donated, it gave Gabriella such a sense of achievement, people didn’t hesitate to donate for such a worthwhile cause. When she received her Dr Kershaw’s certificate through the post she cried, she was so proud of herself and what she had managed to raise!”

Scaling the 557m height of Pendle Hill in 24-degree heat, Gabriella completed the 8km walk, raising over £800 for the Hospice.
