Award Nomination for Christies Closer to Home at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice

27 Aug 2021

Following the announcement that Dr Kershaw’s Hospice was named as a finalist in the Nursing Times Awards - Nursing in the Community category, the Hospice has been shortlisted once more in the same category, for the work that we do in collaboration with The Christie NHS Foundation Trusts, in providing cancer treatments locally.

Launching the initiative in 2019, the nurse led outreach service partnered with Dr Kershaw’s as well as Bury Hospice and St Luke’s Hospice- Cheshire to offer cancer treatments closer to home, reducing travelling time, travel costs and waiting time for patients as well as enabling them to spend more time with their families and to continue to work.

Stephanie Hechter, Clinical Service Manager at The Christie said: “I am delighted that the collaborative work with the Outreach team and local hospices has been recognised. The benefits are for local patients who not only can receive treatment closer to home but the initiative also opens the Hospice door for accessing all the wonderful services that Dr Kershaw’s and the other local hospices deliver.”

Adele Doherty, Director of Clinical Services at Dr Kershaw’s, added: “We care for cancer patients every day, and are proud to have supported patients to be able to access their treatments locally, and that our collaboration has been recognised by the award nomination.”

Our team will now attend a judging day in September, with the winners later announced at the official Nursing Times Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 27th October 2021 at Grosvenor House in London. For more information on the Nursing Times Awards visit
