With the Jubilee celebrations taking place recently, we took to our social media channels to praise five special individuals, all with Hospice connections who were selected to be part of the 70-strong torchbearing team at the event in Oldham on Thursday 2nd June.
The torchlit procession and beacon lighting event headlined the borough’s plans to honour the landmark occasion, and as part of that 70 extraordinary individuals were selected as torchbearers.
Hospice Chief Executive, Joanne Sloan, Fundraisers, Keira Arnold and Mick Bowskill and Hospice Volunteers, Thomas Penketh and Andrew Shillito were each chosen as torchbearers at the prestigious procession which took place in Oldham Town Centre.
Hospice Chief Executive who was nominated as a torchbearer by Oldham Council for her significant contribution to the borough, said: “I really enjoyed the evening, it was a really well organised event and the displays were fabulous. I felt really proud to be an Oldhamer and very grateful to have been nominated and recognised for my contribution for the work that myself and the Hospice have done within the community.”
Hospice Fundraiser, Keira Arnold’s fundraising for her own initiative, ‘Keira’s Wishes’ (which provides patients with their last wishes whilst at the Hospice) recently hit £40,000. She said: “I felt really honoured to have been chosen to be a torchbearer for the Platinum Jubilee. The evening was great with a fantastic procession through town. It was a very well organised event and made me very proud of Oldham.”
