The Greater Manchester High Sheriff Police Trust Supports Child Bereavement Box Initiative at Hospice

29 Oct 2021

Dr Kershaw’s recently received a donation of £500 from the Greater Manchester High Sheriff Police Trust, which will enable the Hospice to purchase specialist child bereavement boxes to help to further support children who have experienced bereavement and loss, along with helping family members to support young people who are experiencing grief.

Kathryn Harding, Dr Kershaw’s Bereavement Support Nurse explains: “We are so very grateful to the High Sheriff Police Trust for the kind donation, which will make such a difference to children and young people experiencing grief. The boxes contain age-appropriate activities and have been developed by ‘Me and My Therapy’ with reference to research on child development, grief and trauma. They are designed to support well-being and encourage creativity and open conversations. Some activities can be completed with parents or supportive adults; they can provide a positive focus and a starting point for conversations that may feel difficult. Other activities can be completed alone as the child or young person feels ready. The boxes will be incredible tools to help us support well-being in bereavement.”

Greater Manchester High Sheriff, Diane Hawkins added: “I am delighted that we have been able to support such a worthwhile cause at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, I know it is only a small amount but every little bit counts and makes a difference to families across the community.”
