Fresh off the back of being named as a finalist in the Nursing Times Awards - Nursing in the Community category, the Dr Kershaw’s Team are once again celebrating as we have been shortlisted for yet another award, this time in the Nursing Times Workforce Summit and Awards for the well-being support the Hospice provides to our staff.
Director of Clinical Services, Adele Doherty explains: “Providing quality hospice end-of-life care in the face of a global pandemic brought many challenges. With visiting restrictions in place on our In-Patient unit, patients and their loved ones were having to make horrendous decisions about who could and couldn’t visit. Staff were already dealing with their own anxieties about nursing through Covid and to not be able to facilitate visits with some family members caused great distress for our team. At one point we also closed our In-Patient Unit and our team all worked in the community visiting patients in their own homes, which many hadn’t experienced before. To support this team we were able to provide additional training along with daily update meetings.”
Keen to support our staff’s well-being even further, Dr Kershaw’s kicked off our Workplace Well-Being initiative back in April, with staff given access to free counselling sessions and complementary therapy treatments as well as training up staff as Mental Health First Aiders to support their colleagues. We also held a Thank You Day where Senior Management took the opportunity to thank staff for their support, with all staff awarded an extra day’s holiday for their dedication.
The Hospice’s Team will now attend a judging day and Awards Ceremony on 17 November in London, for more information visit: https://workforce.nursingtimes.net/
