James Price, 63, has signed up for Dr Kershaw’s Sky Dive after experiencing first-hand the dedicated care and support that the Hospice team provides.
James who has had cancer of the mouth on three separate occasions will, next month, jump from 15,000 feet in a tandem sky dive, to say thank you to the Hospice for the difference their care made to him.
James whose fundraising total is currently over £1,300, said: “Dr Kershaw’s has been a place where I have felt safe and secure in the knowledge that I wasn’t being judged and that everyone who worked or volunteered was happy to help me and they really did that! The empathy, care and support was tailored to meet my specific needs. Dr Kershaw’s staff supported me to manage my excruciating headaches and lack of sleep. They offered guidance in pain management, massage therapy and cognitive counselling. I was treated to a pamper day, with a haircut, a pedicure, followed by a lovely lunch and I almost felt normal for the first time in such a long time. The Sky Dive is my way of saying a big thank you to Dr Kershaw’s for the help they have given me and all the help and support they give to families and their loved ones every single day. I'm a little nervous about the Sky Dive but they are good nerves and I have every intention of making the very best of my experience and enjoying every second of it!”
