Last Chance to Make a Will during Dr Kershaw’s Will Month

With Dr Kershaw’s Will Month taking place this month, one of the Hospice’s Directors, Rebecca Bentham has shared why making a Will was important to her.

Director of Income Development and Marketing, Rebecca said: “When my brother very suddenly, and unexpectedly, passed away our family was in a state of shock and mourning. What helped to ease the burden, a little, was that he had made a Will. Rather than adding even more stress and upset to an already traumatic situation, we were able to carry out his wishes as he had wanted, even down to the details of his funeral. At the time I didn’t have a Will in place, but it made me realise that if something were to happen to me I would be adding increased emotion and strain on my family; as they figure out what to do with my estate whilst grieving.

Writing a Will was a simple process and I was able to highlight certain items that I want to leave to my God children, make donations to the charities that mean a lot to me, and pick the music I want at my funeral. No one knows what tomorrow may bring, but knowing my affairs are in order and this responsibility will not fall to my loved ones gives me a sense of comfort.”  

The Hospice’s Will Month, gives those in the community, who haven’t yet got a Will, the opportunity to access the expertise and Will writing services of local solicitors to support patient care at the Hospice. To find out more visit www.drkh.org.uk/WillMonth
