Lisa O’Gara, 54, and six members of the New Moston Slimming World Club recently celebrated making a donation of £650 to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice by each shedding two stones.

Smashing their initial target of raising £196 (£1 for each pound they lost) Lisa, Joan, Chevonne, Amy, Margaret, Rebecca and Debbie went the extra mile with collections of loose change and a raffle to raise all they could for the Hospice.

Their determination was inspired by Lisa’s close friend Claire Butterworth who was cared for at Dr Kershaw’s two years ago before she sadly passed away, and despite her own health issues, Lisa was determined to succeed to support the Hospice that did so much for her friend.

Lisa explained: “Claire was cared for in the Hospice and then at home, she got to know all the staff and thought they were amazing. When she was poorly she was always happiest at Dr Kershaw’s. Before she died Claire got to have the wedding she wanted, with support from the Hospice Team who helped with her hen party preparations and arranged an extended stay at The Saddleworth Hotel on her honeymoon.

Claire would be so proud of me for losing weight and for raising funds for the Hospice, it was such a great feeling having my photo taken with the big cheque and raising funds in her memory. Thank you to our Slimming World leader Debbie Travis for supporting the group to raise these funds and to the other group members for taking part too!”
