Based on Yorkshire Street in Oldham Town Centre, Café East pledged their opening night’s profits to support patient care at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. Known previously as The Greaves Arms, the new restaurant, which opened in October, serves Punjabi food at night and international food in the day.
Café East Owner, Kamran Ghafoor explains: “Dr Kershaw’s is an integral part of Oldham and the charity is very close to my heart. My aunt recently passed away with cancer and although she wasn’t based in Oldham she still received care which if not for charities such as Dr Kershaw’s would not be available. My team and I are very enthusiastic to support Dr Kershaw’s. We believe that giving back to the community is very important and we hope to make a regular contribution to the Hospice.”
With the past 18 months being difficult for the hospitality industry, the Café East team asked the local community to get behind both them and the Hospice, Kamran added: “Many businesses have had to close and I believe that as locals we need to try and make Oldham Town Centre popular again, by creating services that people want. The opening night was just the beginning of hopefully a long journey of commitment not only to Oldham but to local charities such as Dr Kershaw’s.”
