Shaw Shop 20 Years Ago

Our Retail Team are celebrating after the store hit an incredible 20 years of being open to the community whilst also raising vital funds for patient care.

The store actually opened back in 1992 under the NSPCC name and was the first charity shop on Shaw High Street.

The store is one of our four Hospice shops, which all rely heavily on volunteer support. Leanne Gurney, our Volunteer Co-ordinator said: “Our retail volunteers are in the heart of the community we serve and you feel welcomed as soon as you go in any of the Dr Kershaw’s shops. When Dr Kershaw’s took over the shop in 2002 we were lucky to inherit a whole team of volunteers, and believe it or not two of them are still with us. We have many volunteers who have been supporting for 10-15 years now.”

One of these original volunteers, Gail Ditchfield, added: “Many friendships have been formed over the past 30 years and we really do feel like a family, supporting each other through both the good and hard times that we all experience.”

We are looking for more Retail Volunteers, to find out more about volunteering in our Hospice shops, contact our Volunteering Team on 0161 624 2727 or volunteerdept@drkh.org.uk
